The superstar of Jura region (eastern France).
Family owned since 1650, currently run by Jean-François Ganevat who trained and worked in Domaine Jean-Marc Morey in Chassagne-Montrachet. The 8.5-hectare (21 acres) winery is certified biodynamic. Unfined and unfiltered, without the use of sulphur since 2006.
All whites are aged on lees for at least 24 months, with no new oak. The winery produces a large amount of cuvées every year, up to 35 – 40, each with a unique character and high expression of terroir. 17 different grape varieties are planted, including some outlawed grapes.
Besides wines making from own grapes, the winery also sources grapes from other French regions to make Vin de France cuvées, allowing more flexibility in winemaking, often blending the purchased and estate-grown grapes. The Savagnin grape wine - Les Vignes de Mon Père perhaps is the most famous, which received 100 points from Robert Parker in 2005.
La Gravière is made from 100% Chardonnay from 60 years old vines on marl soil. The wine is aged in wooden vats for 30 months on lees, unfiltered, unfined, vegan and without the use of SO2.
